Usually, the meshing process requires some control steps before the mesh is exported. These steps are typically checking some quality metrics like "Quality", "Determinant" or "Min angle". Avoiding pyramids is important for tetra-prism meshes as well.
CFturbo2ICEM provide a semiautomatic work flow in order to execute this control process. A full automatic mode can be used too but it's recommended only for stable, well tested meshing processes, where a good mesh quality is expected.
Run mode selection
The run mode "Interactive" allows the user to mesh the previously selected component from the components list in a semiautomatic form. Four main steps, controlled by four buttons, are required in order to finish the entire process:
The figure below illustrates the work flow used for this method. ![]() Interactive run method workflow
For the selected component, the geometry can be loaded. Optionally you can modify the mesh parameters if desired and finally mesh the geometry. After the meshing process, if the resulting mesh has not the desired quality, the mesh parameters can be modified again in order to generate a higher quality mesh. This iterative process can be executed several times. Finally you can write the solver file by clicking onto "Export". Once the "Export" step is made, the only way to re-mesh the geometry is to load the geometry again. Therefore the button "Import" remains enabled only. If desired, you can edit export settings and export the mesh again using different settings. If the "Interactive" run mode is selected, the ICEM-CFD buttons Apply and OK remain disabled. |
The run mode "Automatic" allows the user to mesh all the loaded components automatically. This method is recommended for well known meshing processes only, for that the user has sufficient experience about the mesh parameters, i.e. previously meshed similar geometries. Once the desired components have been loaded, the user can modify the previously specified mesh parameters if desired (the button "Parameters" remains enabled). By clicking onto Apply or OK, CFturbo2ICEM will mesh all components sequentially. 1.Load desired components 2.Change mesh parameters for each component (optional) 3.Apply / OK to start the process ![]() Automatic run method workflow |
