Re-mesh a geometry occurs frequently because a good quality mesh requires normally some iterative steps to find optimal mesh parameters. Once found, these parameter values can be saved for future mesh processes of similar geometries. See saving mesh parameters for more information.
Tetra-Prism meshes free of pyramids are normally desired. Successful prism layers generation depends in most cases only of the prism parameters values and it is not necessary to re-mesh the volume each time. For these cases, a good quality volume tetra mesh can be used as starting point for the prism mesh generation.
On the other hand, tetra mesh problems like nodes projection errors, occurs sometimes on surfaces. If disposable and the Delaunay meshing method is used, a good quality surface tetra mesh could be used as starting point for the volume tetra mesh generation.
Re-mesh options will be only enabled if CFturbo2ICEM finds valid existing meshes, which can be used for following mesh generation steps. A mesh file is valid if it has the proper name and it is located in the right directory. See CFturbo2ICEM files structure for more information. Two options are available but they cannot be used simultaneously:
•Use existing volume tetra-mesh: This option can be selected for both meshing methods (Octree and Delaunay) if a valid volume tetra mesh exists. This option should be selected if the user wants to re-mesh in order to obtain different or better quality prism layers. If you do that, tetra parameters will be ignored during the mesh process and only prism parameters will be considered as displayed in the mesh parameters information area.

•Use only surface mesh: This option can be selected only for the Delaunay meshing method. As mentioned on point "Tetra mesh method", the Delaunay algorithm requires an existing surface mesh. This option should be selected for the Delaunay meshing method, if the user wants to use an existing good quality surface mesh and generate a different volume tetra mesh by giving new tetra-prism mesh parameters. If you do that, only volume parameters ("global element seed size" and "min. size limit") and prism parameters values will be considered for the new meshing process as displayed in the mesh parameters information area. Surface parameters will be ignored.
